This year, our government has taken action to demonstrate that it is important to preserve and protect the environment. This is why in the past year, we have stayed committed to the terms of the Paris Agreement and we are working with the provinces, territories, Indigenous people and countries abroad to make a real difference to keep the planet sustainable for generations to come. Budget 2017 has shown that investing in clean innovation, public transport and promoting renewable energy to reach zero emission vehicles are smart investments that show leadership and promote a cleaner economy. However, we have done much more than this. By creating a carbon tax, Canadians will now know the cost of pollution. This is why provinces are now responsible for putting a price on pollution so they can invest more into clean innovation and infrastructure and invest less in trying to fight Carbon emission. Every province, except one, has indicated they will have a price on carbon pollution to reduce emissions while growing their economy and we are convinced that this step is a step closer to reducing our emissions
There are also many other ways to fight pollution. This year, we have worked really hard to ensure that our Oceans are also protected and have the investments they need. Our government invested around $1.5 billion on a national Oceans Protection Plan. The health and protection of Canada’s coasts are critical to our environment, our economy, and to all Canadians. This is why it is important to take actions to make it a priority. Canada has now committed to making the environment a really important concern and as a global leader, it’s important that we continue to set a good example.
