On Monday I had the pleasure of attending the ground breaking ceremony for a home construction project in Fort William First Nation.
The Government, through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, is supporting the construction of eight three-bedroom homes in Fort William First Nation, and will continue to work in partnership with First Nation communities to help them meet their housing goals. Investing in social infrastructure in Indigenous communities is a key pillar of our Government’s strategy to create inclusive growth, and we are committed to making progress on improving housing outcomes in First Nations communities.
Over the coming year we will be working with First Nations communities to develop an effective long-term approach to supporting the maintenance of an adequate supply of housing on reserve, as part of a broader National Housing Framework. I am very excited that the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is investing in this project, and look forward to seeing the great things that it will bring to the Fort William First Nation.
